Q. What does the name "Clio" mean?
A. In ancient Greek mythology there were nine Muses. Clio was the Muse of history.
Q. When was the company founded?
A. Clio Associates was founded in 1992 as an audio oral history company. By 1995 it had combined oral history with video production. In 1999 the company added a digital editing studio and moved to its current location in a restored 19th century mill site.
Q. Who are typical clients?
A. Businesses and organizations often want to celebrate a milestone or pay tribute to a retiring employee, and simultaneously capture the institution's history for future preservation, employee education and marketing purposes. Families may wish to honor loved ones with a video biography when special events are approaching, such as a 70th birthday or a 50th wedding anniversary; perhaps there's been a recent illness or loss that reawakens a family to the inevitable passage of time. Communities undergoing change may ask us to tape residents' recollections and gather their collective history for future generations to understand and appreciate.
Q. How long does a project take to complete?
A. Depending on how extensive it is, a project can average one month to one year to complete. Video biographies can usually be completed in three months or less. It is always best to contact us as soon as you are thinking about using our services so we can schedule the project to meet your timetable.
Q. When you record an oral history, how long is it?
A. A typical session is up to two hours in length.
Q. Who conducts the video oral history?
A. When recorded on videotape, there are always two of us, an experienced technician and professional oral history interviewer. When recorded on audiocassette, there is only the professional oral historian present.
